Articles such as Here’s Why Climate Change Is Actually Not An Existential Crisis in Forbes are fundamentally incorrect, as they rely on assumptions that are demonstrably false.

The article is like many where there are glimpses of truth, such as “Extreme Doomsday narratives are more part of the problem than part of the solution to dealing with climate change. Some people will find the Doomsday narrative noncredible.”

It is why I wrote Optimistic Storm. The doomer perspective is that the impacts of climate change are the most existential threat to human civilisation, and you should retreat to a place where the impacts can be least felt. The optimistic view is that we can stop worsening climate change through innovation and ingenuity.

But we need to get the politicians to stop bickering and get on with the job of climate mitigation. Most countries can do better. Stop funding fossil fuels and use that money to eliminate burning fossil fuels. Two slogans spell it out.

  • Stop burning rocks
  • Wires not pipes
