Publishing a three-part series on Kindle looks simple until you try to line everything up. Optimistic Storm has three books, three covers, two formats and a series page on Amazon KDP, and over time every one of them had drifted slightly from the others. This week I used Claude, working with my KDP account, Google Drive and Photoshop cover files, to tidy it all up.
What the AI found
I gave Claude the series page and the three cover files and asked it to compare them with the book descriptions. It found things I had stopped seeing:
- The series reading order on KDP was wrong: Part 2 was Book 2, Part 1 was Book 3, Part 3 was Book 4, and nothing was in position one.
- Part 3 had three different titles across the cover, the series page and the book record.
- There were typos in back cover text, including a website address that would have gone to print misspelled.
- A second barcode was stacked under the right one on the Part 3 cover file.
- Figures differed between covers, such as the number of cars on the road and the year I started using computers.
What I still had to do
AI is an excellent proofreader and a tireless comparer of documents. It is not the author. Claude listed the issues as questions, and I answered every one: which title to keep, which figures stand, which of my phrases to put back when it had tightened my text. It also flagged claims worth a source check, and that check stays with me.
A workflow I would use again
- Let the AI read the live KDP pages and the cover files and list every inconsistency.
- Decide each question yourself, in writing.
- Have the AI draft the back covers, series description and book descriptions in one working document.
- Edit the cover files and check the finished PDFs yourself.
- Paste in the final text, and keep a short record of what was decided and why.
The result is three covers, three descriptions and a series page that finally say the same thing. If you are self-publishing a series, start there: consistency is the cheapest improvement you can make. Optimistic Storm Parts 1, 2 and 3 are on Kindle and in paperback. The steps in short: I gave Claude access to the KDP series page, Google Drive and the three cover files, had it list every inconsistency, answered each question myself, then checked the finished covers before anything went live.
