Solar PV could replace fossil fuel by 2028

There are enough solar panels for 100% electricity generation in 4 years and enough to replace all fossil energy by 2035. The reported solar panel production capacity out of China is over 1TW PV in 2024, and expected to grow in 2025. China faces an industry collapse of companies making solar panels. Either panels must be deployed globally or there will be a sector collapse.

  • A deployment of that number of panels globally will also need batteries.
  • Each year, that number of solar PV would 4.5% of coal and gas for electricity

Speed of Deployment: Fast Enough?

  • Pakistan took a large number of panels in 2023, and added 25% of its electricity demand.
  • Rooftop deployment does not need transmission or distribution.
  • Utility grade solar has grid connection delays
  • Adding batteries for household resolves the issue of excess capacity at midday (duck curve)
  • Countries can be 100% renewable energy
  • Production capacity expected to rise to 2TW by 2026.
  • A 2TW production would lead to a 9% year-on-year increase in change
    Within 4 years, 2028, all over.
    In contrast, the average nuclear takes 14 years to build. From today.
